SENCO

At Dandelions we are a fully inclusive setting. Our calm, home-from-home learning environment is constantly evolving to meet the needs and interests of the children as they develop at their own pace. We adapt our environment, activities and resources to reflect the children’s developmental needs and interests as this is when children learn best.

We use positive, small steps approach where we celebrate success often and achieve targets through play based activities. The individual child is at the heart of everything, we get to know them well and use what they can already do and their interests to achieve their next steps.

We have experience of teaching with Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Down Syndrome, Global Development Delays, Physical conditions and many others. We work in partnership alongside parents and other professionals such as Pediatricians, Physiotherapists, Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and Specialists Teachers.

Dandelions has a strong support network and can guide parents to outside agencies in the area.

All our experienced staff are highly trained and constantly update their knowledge taking part in courses such as Early Years SENCO Level 3, Portage Approach Workshop, Early Birds Autism training, Autism Ambassador, Behaviour Management and Makaton.

We are a Makaton friendly setting, using signing to support children with their communication and language development. This is especially useful for children with SEN , but all children benefit from this approach.

When it is time for your child to leave Dandelions to continue their journey at school, we understand the importance of a smooth transition. Dandelions has strong links with all the local schools and we provide a thorough transition for those children with SEN, tailored to their individual needs. For those children who we feel would benefit from an educational health and care plan, we will work together with the parents to ensure, where possible, these are in place ready for the transition into school.
